In Scotland, Healthcare is provided free through the National Health Service, regardless of Social Security or National Insurance payments.  The NHS also makes some contribution to dental work and eye tests.  Private health clinics, dentists and opticians also operate in Scotland.

Despite minor complaints, the climate in Scotland is actually very temperate with no extreme weather conditions.  Summer days are long and warm and winter is often mild.  Flooding, which has become a regular occurrence in England, remains rare in Scotland.

With regards to religion, since her Protestant reformation, the Church of Scotland has been Scotland’s national church.  However, Scotland also has a significant Roman Catholic population, particularly in the West.  Although these are the main religions, Scotland is generally seen as a multi-faith society with places of worship for every denomination, Islam being the largest non-Christian religion.
